Assembléon

Internship Modelling Pick Process

Key areas of responsibility

The goal of this internship is to build a numerical model (CFD) of the picking process in a Component Mounter.
Picking a component is a complex process, consisting of subsequent stages:
- Build-up of flow through the pipette,
- Contact with the component, and build-up of vacuum pressure in the toolbit,
- Upward acceleration of the component .

The internship is in particular aimed at the first two stages. During these stages, it is known that the vacuum pipette geometry, the component properties and the geometrical properties of the tape carrying the components have a significant influence.

A set of test cases, describing different component-pipette combinations has to be identified and computed by the model.
Until now, within Assembléon, Pick & Place process knowledge is mainly generated using experimental testing. The confrontation of these experimental findings with numerical models will lead to new insights and new chances for process improvement.
